Does your back hurt while exercising?
Exercising is an important part of an active lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore any discomfort that arises during exercise.
Sometimes your back may start to feel tight or heavy after exercising. Other times, the discomfort appears during a specific movement, such as running, lifting weights, or performing certain exercises.
I see this type of situation frequently in my practice, especially among people who exercise regularly but spend many hours sitting for the rest of the day.
Why Can This Discomfort Occur?
The back needs a combination of mobility, strength, and coordination to support each movement properly.
Sudden increase in activity
Starting to train at a higher intensity than usual can place a strain on the body that it is not yet accustomed to.
Lack of mobility
If certain areas of the spine move less, other areas may end up doing additional work during certain exercises.
Accumulated fatigue
It is not always the training itself that is responsible. Getting too little sleep, working long hours while sitting, or accumulating tension throughout the week can also affect how your back feels when exercising.
Listen to your body's signals.
What I encounter most often in my practice are people who continue training even though they have been experiencing mild discomfort for weeks.
Mild discomfort does not always mean that you need to stop moving. However, it is worth paying attention to when it appears, with which movements, and whether it goes away with rest.
Maintaining good mobility, increasing intensity progressively, and allowing enough time for rest can help you enjoy exercise more comfortably.
If the pain is severe, appears suddenly, or is accompanied by weakness, loss of sensation, or other significant symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
In Terrassa, through chiropractic care, we also pay attention to how the spine moves and how the body responds during everyday and sporting activities.
